Rector’s Biography

Viktor Oleksandrovych Bohomolov was born on June 21, 1956 in Donetsk, where he acquired general secondary education and vocational training. In 1975, Viktor Oleksandrovych graduated from Donetsk Construction College with a specialty in Road-Building Machinery and Equipment.

In 1982, he graduated with honors from Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway Institute (now University) with a degree in Automobiles and Automotive Industry. After graduation, Viktor Oleksandrovych remained at the Department of Automobiles as an intern researcher.

 In 1987, he successfully defended his PhD thesis on the topic “Improving the efficiency of braking mechanisms of heavy duty vehicles” and worked as an assistant, associate professor and then as a professor of the Department of Automobiles.

In 1998, Viktor Oleksandrovych became the Academic Secretary of the KhNAHU Specialised Research Council for the defense of doctoral dissertations.

In 1998, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine he was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (together with nine co-authors) for the development of theoretical and practical foundations for the creation and industrial application of the next generation of competitive, highly efficient and reliable pneumatic systems for road vehicles.

In 2001, after a successful and early defense of the dissertation devoted to improving the control methods of vehicle braking systems, Viktor Oleksandrovych earned the degree of Doctor of Engineering Science and the academic rank of Professor of the Department of Automobiles.  From 2002 till 2020 he held the position of Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and at the same time - Deputy Head of the Specialized Research Council.

Since 2003, Viktor Oleksandrovych Bohomolov has been a corresponding member and a full member of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, as well as the Deputy Head of the South-Eastern Research Center of TAU.

Since 2006, Viktor Oleksandrovych has been repeatedly elected as a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine for Transport Issues. He used to be an editor-in-chief of the specialised journal “Bulletin of KhNAHU” and now he is a regular member of the editorial boards of the specialised journals “Bulletin of KhNAHU” and “Automobile Transport”.

Since 2012, Victor Bohomolov has been Honored Worker of the Transport Academy of Ukraine.

V. O. Bohomolov is a well-known specialist in the field of automotive engineering and theory of car. He is the author of more than 160 scientific works, including 5 monographs, 5 textbooks, 45 patents and copyright certificates, 10 of which are foreign. At present, 26 patents and copyright certificates have been put into serial production at industrial enterprises of Ukraine. Brake actuators, air suspensions and clutch actuators, which are produced under these patents, are implemented in the construction of cars and buses, trolleybuses, trailers and semi-trailers of well-known domestic and foreign car manufacturers.

Victor Bohomolov, the talented scientist, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of Science and Technology, Professor devotes his main scientific activities to the problems of calculation, design and improvement of braking systems of heavy duty vehicles.

Under his guidance, three PhD theses and one doctoral dissertation were defended.

For the personal contribution to the development of science and great achievements in the field of education, as well as many years of hard work and professionalism, Victor Bohomolov was awarded the badges of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” and “For Scientific Achievements”, the Honorary Certificates of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine, the Honorary Badge of KhNAHU “For outstanding service to the University community” of all three degrees,  as well as Diploma of the regional competition “Higher School of Kharkiv Region - the best names”.
